Sikh Educational Society to award two Sikh scholars
Chandigarh, Nov 17 (UNI) The Sikh Educational Society (SES) has decided to bestow Gurmat Awards, being given in the memory of Panth Rattan, Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra every year, upon two prominent Sikh scholars, Dr Gurbakhash Singh and Harinder Singh Mehboob, this year.
The SES is a prestigious organisation, which is managing over half a dozen prominent educational institutions in Chandigarh and Punjab.
Disclosing this in a press note released here today, Col (retd) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, SES, said that these awards would be given at a function to be organised at Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh on November 22.
He informed that Dr Kharak Singh Mann, Prof Manmohan Sehgal, Dr J S Grewal, Dr Kirpal Singh, Prof Prthipal Singh Kapoor, Dr Balkar Singh, Dr Sarup Singh Alag, Dr Gurnam Singh and Dr Madamjit Kaur have been honored with these awards in the past.
Col Bala stated that Dr Gurbakhash Singh, who is active in the functioning of Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh, has made unique contribution in the field of Sikh history and theology.
Similarly, Harinder Singh Mehboob, who has been conferred with prestigious Sahit Academy and Shiromani Kavi Awards, is a Punjabi poet and a Sikh scholar.
