MIG war plane crashes, pilot ejects safely
Siliguri, Nov 17: An Indian Air Force war plane on a routine sortie crashed on a forested land at Alipurduar in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal on Monday, Nov 17, police said.
Jalpaiguri district superintendent of police Monoj Verma told UNI that a MIG was involved in an accident at Dobarbari village under Kumargram police station, about 50 km east of Hasimara Air Force base beteeen 1000 and 1100 hrs this morning. He said the details of casualty were awaited. A huge crater was created by the wreckage. Mr Verma said according to an initial report, the pilot had successfully ejected himself seconds before crashing.
Police, Army and Air Force officials have rushed to the scene of accident, an interior area inhabitated by tea workers.
Mr Versa said the crashed plane was possibly MIG-27.
