Mawlong posthumously conferred with "Bharat Jyoti Award"
Shillong, Nov 17 (UNI) Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Evansius Kek Mawlong has been posthumously conferred with the coveted ''Bharat Jyoti Award'' by the India International Friendship Society (IIFS).
''This information was forwarded to our family by the Society's secretary general, Gurpreet Singh of New Delhi,'' Mr Mawlong's scion George B Lyngdoh said here today.
The IIFS is one of the country's leading voluntary organisations which advocate economic growth and national integration. It champions forging friendships in vital areas between individuals, corporates, regions, religions and nations while also emphasising on peace, progress and prosperity of the global community.
The award cites Mawlong as a worthy example in giving 'a fight in life' to realise these cherished goals of the society and 'inspiring others towards certain remarkable achievements'.
The award presentation ceremony will be held on December 27 in New Delhi during a seminar on the theme ''Global Participation in India's Economic Development''.
