Mangaluru, Nov 17: The District Crime Intelligence Bureau arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Praveen on Nov 9. Praveen was found dead in a pond in an abandoned granite quarry near Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd. plant and his car and cellphone were missing from the place.
The police identified the accused as Shamsuddin (20), Ismail Arif (22) and Safar Hussain – all residents of Mukka village of Surathkal. The trio is suspected to have been involved in another incident the same day on National Highway 17 in which Shivakumar was waylaid and robbed. N. Sateesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, told presspersons here on Sunday that the crimes were committed for gain. The accused had been caught by using the recently acquired "Portrait building software," he said. The accused had confessed to the murder of Praveen.
The police were on the lookout for Mayyadi, suspected to be a key member of the gang. Mr. Kumar said that the gang might have been involved in about 30 cases of highway robbery in the recent past. Most of the victims were truck drivers, he said and added that 10 mobile phones, three machetes and a gold chain had been recovered.
