Karthik, Badrinath put Tamil Nadu in box seat

By Staff

Ghaziabad, Nov 17 (UNI) A strong 213-run third wicket stand between S Badrinath (123) and captain Dinesh Karthik (159) allowed Tamil Nadu to take a 206-run lead with six first innings wicket still remaining against Uttar Pradesh on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Super League group B match here today.

After bundling out Uttar Pradesh for a paltry 150, Tamil Nadu had reached 356 for four with Karthik and S Kumar (5) still at the crease when the stumps were drawn.

Overnight batsmen Karthik and Badrinath did not give anything away to the hosts and tore apart the UP bowling with some selective shots.

Badrinath's innings, which had 13 fours and a six, finally came to an end when he tried to go for another huge hit only to see himself being stumped by wicket keeper Amir Khan off Prashant Gupta.

However, Karthik kept a cool head and did not give his wicket away and added another 94 runs with S Vidyut (44) for the fourth wicket.

Meanwhile, Karthik reached his 150 and did not surrender his wicket and remained unbeaten as UP bowlers tried hard to get his wicket.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar remained the most successful bowlers for the hosts with two wickets, which he claimed yesterday, while Tyagi and Gupta bagged a wicket each.
