Puducherry, Nov 17 (UNI) Intel, an IT major today launched a 'Net yatra' as a part of the country wide effort to educate citizens about the benefit of internet and spread awareness about it.

Addressing a press conference here today, Intel South Asia's Director of sales R Ravichandran said the company recognised that internet was capable of transforming the lives and future of our country and at the same time it was also aware that there were hundreds of Indians who are unware of its usage.

Through the "Net yatra" Intel hoped to educate people about the benefits of internet, while offering them a hands-on experience of the same, he said.

''The goal of Intel is to reach out to 80 cities over the next few months'', he added.

As part of the 'Net Yatra', specially designed buses would visit schools and colleges across the country, he said, adding the air-conditioned buses equipped with plasma screens, Intel powered netbooks and notebooks and 24 hour internet connectivity would recreate the ambience of being in a class room to the students.

The audience would be shown applications which could simplify day-to-day life such as online booking of tickets and online visiting of Indian language news sites, he added.

The 'Net Yatra', which was flagged off on October 13 at Tumkur, had covered eight cities and was receiving overwhelming response there.
