India sends 1700 metric tonnes relief assistance to Sri Lanka
New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) India has sent about 1700 metric tonnes of relief material to Sri Lanka as humanitarian assistance for the internally-displaced and affected civilians in the Northern part of the island nation.
The relief material, mobilised by the Tamil Nadu Government, comprises 80,000 ready-to-use family packs of rice, pulse, sugar and other food items as well as clothing.
The ship carrying 100 containers of relief material was sent on November 13 and reached Colombo on November 15, the External Affairs Ministry announced here today.
The Indian High Commission in Colombo is facilitating the distribution to the affected population in Northern Sri Lanka through the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Ministry said.
