Amritsar, Nov 17 (UNI) As many as eightstudents of Red Cross DAV School for Mentally and Physically Challenged, brought laurels to their school, bagging 21 medals in the recently concluded "Punjab State Special Olympic Games" held at Ludhiana .
The school has recently come under the wing of the DAV Managing Committee, New Delhi. Dr Neelam Kamra, Principal BBK DAV College and Mrs Neera Sharma, Principal DAV Public School applauded the brilliant effort of these children at a special function organised here today.
The school won six golds, 4 silver and 11 bronze medals taking the total medal tally of the school to 21 medals Four students of the school including multiple challenged Shalinder and Mohit besides mentally challenged Ankit and Kewal did exceptionally well winning three medals each in various athletic disciplines according to age group.
While Shalinder bagged gold in 200mts race, he also won a silver and bronze in shotput throw and 100mts race respectively. Mohit showed his mettle in 200mts race with a gold and silver in shotput throw besides winning the bronze in 100mts.
Kewal who also clinched three medals including a gold in 100mts and silver in 200mts besides a bronze in shotput.
Ankit too has done wonders winning a gold in the shotput and silver and bronze in 100mts and 200mts respectively.
Significantly Shalinder who won three golds in athletics and was chosen "Best Athlete" last year at the National Special Olympics, has also achieved the grand distinction of being chosen "to represent India" in the "International Special Olympics" to be held in Pakistan in year 2010.
The school has added another feather to its cap with three of its students including Shalinder, a deaf and dumb student Heena and Mohit who have been selected to be awarded by Punjab Governor Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues for excellence in painting.
