31 Maoists surrender, hand over explosives to police
Visakhapatnam, Nov 17 (UNI) As many as 31 cadres of CPI(Maoists), including six Dalam commanders have surrendered before the police, District Police Superintendent Akun Sabharwal said.
Talking to newspersons here today, he said this was the first time when Maoists cadres from various platoons, including 1st and 2nd Armed Militia Platoon of Gunukurai agency, surrendered on a largescale after the peace initiative process taken up by the district police.
He said six landmines, seven claymore mines, 10 coupling bombs, 25 detonators and party literatures were handed over to the police by the surrendered naxalites.
Wearing arm bands carrying peace messages, the surrendered naxalites organised a 'Shanti committee' urging other cadres to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream, Dr Sabharwal said adding that the surrendered naxalites would be provided support under the government assured package.
