Ghaziabad, Nov 16 (UNI) Seam bowlers Laxmipati Balaji (4/38) and Palani Amarnath (4/53) ran through the Uttar Pradesh batting line-up to bundle out the hosts for a paltry 150 runs against Tamil Nadu on the first day of Ranji Trophy Super League group 'B' here today.
Tamil Nadu, in reply, were 78 for the loss of two wickets at stumps. Subramanium Badrinath (41) and skipper Dinesh Kartik (19) were at the crease after both the visitors' openers A Mukund (0) and A Karthik (19) fell cheaply to the pace bowler Bhuvnshawar Kumar.
Earlier in the morning, after winning the toss and puting Uttar Pradesh (UP) in to bat first, Tamil Nadu pace bowlers Ganapathy, Amarnath and Balaji exploited the early morning condition exceptionally well.
The home team had a miserable start as six top-order batsmen were in the dressing room when the score was only on 96.
UP openers Tanmay Srivastava and Sourabh Shukla began the procedings confidently and added 39 runs for the first wicket.
Srivastava was the dominatnt partner as he scored 29 runs off 45 balls with the help of six boundaries.
However, Amarnath drew the first blood as he scalped dangerous looking Srivastava on his individual score of 29.
Prashant Gupta joined Shulka after the Srivastava's departure and started confidently but soon Shukla got out to Amarnath scoring only 12 runs.
The loss of openers triggered a batting collapse with Ravikant Shukla (7), Parvinder Singh (9), Kumar (7) falling cheaply.
Later Piyush Chawla took control of the situation and and negotiated the Tamil Nadu bowling attack with ease and added 30 runs for the eighth wicket in the company of Imtiyaz Ahmed (17).
Chawla scored a gritty 28 with the help of four boundaries off the 58 balls he faced.
However, after Ahmed's exit, who was out at the team's score of 150, right arm pacer Balaji ran through the tail and bundled them out of 150 runs.
Apart from Balaji and Amarnath, Ganapathy was among the wicket takers who claimed two top order UP batsman.
