Hyderabad, Nov 16 (UNI) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and University of Hyderabad (UoH) in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to establish academic links between TIFR's Hyderabad Centre and UoH.
The TIFR is an autonomous institute under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India (GoI).
The TIFR has proposed to create a new campus to implement its plans for expansion of research, educational and related activities with a projected investment of Rs 2,500 crore over a period of 12-15 years, an official release said here yesterday.
The Chief Minister said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would lay the foundation stone for the proposed campus during his forthcoming visit to Hyderabad.
He said the construction of the campus would start in the current year itself. ''I am very glad that the TIFR is coming to Hyderabad and I see a great future for the UoH and TIFR,'' the Chief Minister said.
The Director, TIFR, said, this was a historic step and he was grateful to the state government.
