SRM beat Anna University in semi-final

Kannur, Nov 16 (UNI) SRM University, Chennai beat Anna University in the semi-finals league matches of the South-West Zone Inter- University Volleyball Championship for Women here today.

In a keenly contested five-set match, the winners overpowered the fighting Anna girls, 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14 and 15-13.

Though the winners had lost the first set (22-25), the determined SRM girls came back to the match and won the second set at 27-15.

However, the joy did not last long as the Anna girls snatched the third set at 25-23.

Sensing the danger, the SRM girls regrouped and took out all their strategies, and won the remaining two sets rather easily at 25-14 and 15-13.

For winners Lissy Eepen and M Sajini, Poovazhi and Mahalakshmi earned points, while Vijayalakshmi and Sarayoo Vijayam scored points to the losers.

Anna, SRM, Madras and hosts Kannur qualified for the All-India inter University Volleyball for Women Championship to be held here from November 20 to 24.

Punjab University, Chattisgarh University, Kurukshethra, Calcutta University, Punjab University and Patiala would be the remaining teams from North-East Zone.
