Palakkad, Nov 16 (UNI) After initial setbacks, Kerala opener Sambasiva Sarma with his brilliant unbeaten century, put hosts to a comfortable position on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group 'A' cricket match against Haryana here today.
At stumps, Kerala were 214 runs for the loss of six wickets.
Except Sarma, no other batsman could withstand the onslaught of the visitors constant attack. Sarma faced 227 balls in his 103, studded with 15 hits to the fence.
The host won the toss and elected to bat, but began the day on a disastrous note, as Haryana paceman Jitendar Billa claimed the first three wicket quickly when the score board barely read 32.

However, Jitender, who claimed four wickets, dashed the hope of Sony by claiming his wicket in the third ball of his opening spell.
The hosts, hardly had the time to settle down when Jitender dealt a blow by claiming the wicket of Jagadeesh, with the scoreboard reading a mere three.
