Aizawl, Nov 16 (UNI) BJP national president Rajnath Singh has called for the formation of North East Security Council to comprehensively deal with all security related issues of the entire North East region on the pattern of the National Security Council.
Addressing a public rally at Sakawrdai, about 150 kms northeast of Aizawl yesterday, Mr Singh alleged that the border security in the country under the UPA government at the Centre had weakened considerably.
''Now there is increased movement of contraband, narcotics and illegal arms especially from border areas in the North East region,'' he said.
He assured that one of the high priorities of the NDA, if it gets elected to power, will be to ensure foolproof fencing of all the borders in the North East region, especially with Myanmar and Bangladesh, on the lines of the Indo-Pak border in the western part of the country.
Making a scathing attack on the Congress-led UPA government, the BJP president alleged that owing to the wrong policies and gross economic mismanagement by the Centre, the country was suffering from economic slowdown and price rise of essential commodities.
''As a result of this, the aam admi whom the Congress party claims to represent, is suffering like never before,'' he said, adding in his opinion the North East always had to endure extra burden because of price rise given the transportation costs involved and also the problems of bandh and militancy.
