Punjab: Cong leaders question Hans Raj's nomination
Chandigarh, Nov 16: Punjab Congress MLA, Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Sunday, Nov 16 termed the candidature of popular Punjabi singer, Hans Raj Hans from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat as a clear sign of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), 'shedding its Sikh identity and character'.
''It is a well known fact that Hans Raj believes in the worship of a living God and has got himself installed as head of the 'Lal Badshah' shrine in Nakodar'', Mr Khaira said, while pointing out that this form of worship was against the very tenets and principles of Sikhism.
Questioning the contributions of the singer to Punjab or Sikhism, the Congress leader said Hans was merely a good singer who sang only for money.
''Hans has not made contribution to the state in any form and he sings for money'', he added while reacting to the nomination of the singer from the Jalandhar (reserve) seat for the next Lok Sabha polls by SAD.
