Rajkot, Nov 16 (UNI) Centuries by Ravi Inder (114) and Sunny Sohal (103), who together put up a 165-run stand, helped Punjab amass 291 for five wickets in their first innings against Saurashtra in Super League Ranji Trophy match at the Madhavrao Scindia Stadium here.
After winning the toss, Punjab opted to bat first, with Ravneet Ricky and Ravi Inder Singh opening to put on 51 runs for the first wicket, before the former was bowled by left arm spinner Kamlesh Makwana, when he had made 17.
Ravi Inder Singh and Sunny Sohal brought up their 165 run partnership for second wicket in 168 minutes and 273 balls.
Left-arm-spinner Ravindra Jadeja produced a sensational spell and took three wickets for 49 runs of his 15 overs. The other left-arm-spinner Kamlesh Makwana accounted for two for 63 and helped Saurashtra to restrict Punjab from piling up huge score on a batting track. Seam bowlers -- Sandeep Jobanputra and J Odedra -- failed to grab wickets on day one.
Ravi Inder Singh reached 114, comprising of 22 boundaries, after facing 209 deliveries before he was trapped LBW by Ravindra Jadeja.
Sunny Sohal was also dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja after he completed his ton. His innings of 103 runs studded with fifteen fours, after facing 191 balls helped him stay at the pitch for 232 minutes.
In last over of the day, Kamlesh Makwana struck and dismissed Uday Kaul, who was caught by wicket keeper Sagar Jogiyani after scoring an individual 16.
At Stumps Taruwar Kohli was batting on 11.
