Chandigarh, Nov 16 (UNI) The Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (SNID) round of 2008-09 was conducted today in 13 districts of Haryana, in which polio drops were administered to 17.30 lakh children below five years of age at specially set up booths on the first day of the campaign.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of Health Department said that these 13 districts of Haryana included Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonepat and Yamunanagar.
The three day pulse polio campaign was launched by Health Minister, Mrs Kartar Devi at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kaloi in district Rohtak by administering the polio drops to the eligible children.
He said that this campaign would continue for another two days in these districts. During these two days, members of specially constituted teams would visit houses to trace and administer polio drops to the children who might have not been brought to booths for polio drops.
He said that on the first day during booth activity, about 62 per cent of the targetted 27.90 lakh children under five years of age had been administered polio drops. In order to smoothly carry out this campaign, 10,525 booths were setup in 13 districts of the State and these were manned by about 42,000 health officials, volunteers, anganwari workers and Accredited Social Health Activists.
