Jharkhand restrict Goa to 190: Rao shines

Margao, Nov 16 (UNI) Medium Pacer Shankar Rao (5/51) bowled with lot of fire to enable Jharkhand skittle out Goa for a paltry 190 in 56.3 overs before tea on the opening day of the four-day Ranji Trophy plate''A'' group cricket match at the MCC ground here today.

Jharkhand, in reply, were struggling at 77 for 4 at close of play, seven minutes before scheduled time due to bad light.

At stumps, Amir Hashmi (not out 27) and Pratap Kumar (not out 1) were at the crease.

Jharkhand still need 114 runs to gain first inning lead over Goa with six wickets in hand.

Goa, after winning the toss, opted to bat but their batsmen messed it up completely as top half of the batting line collapsed with the board reading 26 for 5. The opening pair Captain Swapnil Asnodkar and Sagun kamat, who peformed well in the last two matches, failed to live up to expectations.

Sagun (2) Asnodkar (1), Advait Katkar (4) J Arun Kumar (4) and Ajay Ratra (8) fell cheaply as they failed to negotiate the attack of the visitors.

All rounder Sadab Jakati took control of the situation and and negotiated the Jharkhand bowling attack with ease and added 66 runs for the sixth wicket partership with score on the board reading 92 for 6 before Ryan Ninan was trapped leg before wicket by Satosh Lal on 12.

After Ninan's exit, Saurab Bandekar joined Shadab and both showed grit and determination and kept the board moving, scoring off almost every ball. Jakati, who was shpaing well, lost his cool and was caught&bowled by Sunny Gupta on 68 when the score was 142 for 7.

Shadab's innings of 68 was laced with 13 fours and came off 107 balls and in 142 minutes. He a got life when he was on 8, dropped by Santosh Lal when the scoreboard was 39 for 5. Saurab Bandekar's 49, included 9 fours, and came off 46 balls and 70 minutes.

Later, Goa folded its first inning at a total score of 190 in 56.3 overs, 9 minutes before the tea. Sher Bahadur Yadav remained not out on 6.

Shakar Rao (5 for 51) and Satosh Lal (2 for 42) were the most successful bowlers for Jharkhand.
