Srinagar, Nov 16 (UNI) In order to provide all facilities to mediapersons covering the seven-phase Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Information Department (ID) has set up two media centres here and in Jammu.
The media centres, which had started functioning from last evening would provide adequate facilities for smooth coverage of polling and counting.
Both the media centres have been equipped with multiple facilities like broadband internet connectivity, telephone and fax, computers and referrals for the facilitation of the journalists.
While the media centre at Jammu has been established within the office premises of the Directorate of Information at Mubarak Mandi, the one at Srinagar has been set up at the Banquet Hall on the Maulana Azad Road.
The press briefings at Jammu, however, would be held at the Grey Hall, Mubarak Mandi Complex.
The mediapersons were provided information kit that includes a handbook on Assembly Elections- 2008, which provides detailed coverage about the electorate in the state, its division-wise, district-wise and constituency-wise break-up, besides phase-wise information about the ensuing elections.
The book also separately provides profiles of all the 87 constituencies in the state as well as list of winners of Assembly elections from 1972 to 2002, besides a helpline in the handbook with addresses and phone numbers of Election Commission of India, J&K Election Department, State Administration as well as police.
Soft copies of the Election Handbook and J&K Votes 2002 have also been provided in the kit.
