Jamshepur, Nov 16 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi National Open University will start a foundation course in Bhojpuri language from January next year.
Mr Sudhir Kumar, who was in the panel of writers for the course and ran a popular Bhojpuri website '' bhojpuria.com'', informed newspersons here today that in a meeting of the course writers on November 12 in New Delhi the draft of the foundation course was finalised and it was decided to start it from January next year.
He said Prof Shatrughna Kumar, Course Coordinator at the School of Humanities, IGNOU, promised in the meeting to also start certificate, Diploma, Degree and post graduate course in Bhojpuri soon.
'' If we look at the number of people speaking Bhojpuri, it is only second to Hindi. Moreover, it is a language which is spoken not only in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, but also in countries, including Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad&Tobago, Muscat and Surinam, '' added Kumar.
A large number of Bhojpuri-speaking people also reside in metros like New Delhi and Mumbai.
