Aizawl, Nov 16 (UNI) The Election Commission of India's observers have been impressed with the relative tranquil pre-poll atmosphere in Mizoram.

Special observer Debashish Sen, in a meeting with leaders of the church and NGOs here yesterday, highly acclaimed the election guidelines served by the Mizoram People's Forum (MPF) and the central Young Mizo Association(YMA) for fair, clean and inexpensive elections.

While MPF is a social front of the state's largest and most influential denomination the Mizoram Presbyterian Church, the YMA is the state's biggest NGO.

Mr Sen said the election guidelines issued by the two organisations, which were unparalleled in the country, deserved to be studied and copied by other states.

While MPF is an organ of the state's largest church denomination Mizoram Presbyterian Church, YMA is the largest NGO in the state.

All the election observers arrived here yesterday and visited the Aizawl DC/DEO office. They expressed concern on the defacement of public and private property with banners and posters, which however, is not much prevalent in Mizoram.

Of the 23 observers appointed for Mizoram, six are assigned to Aizawl and the rest are divided among the other seven districts, Aizawl district election officer H Lianzela said here today.
