Dempo routes Chirag United 4-0

Margao, Nov 16 (UNI) Riding on a splendid brace by Nigerian Renty Martin, defending champions Dempo Sports Club humbled Chirag United 4-0, after leading by 2-0 at the breather and earned full points in their eighth round ONGC I league Footall championship match, played here at Nehru stadium, Fatorda, today.

Renty Martin (7th, 70th Minute), Joaquim Abranches (42nd minute) and Roberto Mendis Silva (64th minute), scored for the winners.

With this win, Dempo increased their points tally to 11 from eight outings, consisting of three wins, two draws and three defeats, while Chirag United remained on eight points from as many matches.

Dempo began on a rousing note with control of midfield and gave a good account of themselves in both the halves.

Dempo shot into the lead as early as in the 7th minute of the first half through Renty Martin, off a well measured pass collected from Joaquim Abranches.

The home team could have increased their lead in the 21st minute, but Abraches's header missed the mark narrowly off floating cross pass from by Anthony Pereira.

Chirag United came with a good move in the 29th minute and had a chance to level the score, but Dempo goalkeeper Satish Kumar brought off a fine save off attempted try by Gauranga Datta off a good cross pass given by Snehasis Chakraborthy.

Dempo had another chance to increase their lead when Roberto Mendis Silva (Beto) initiatd a move and pass to Abranches, but his well attempted shot was brilliantly saved by Chirag Goalkeepr Gopal Das.

Three minutes before the breather, Dempo consolidated their lead through Abranches. It was a free kick by Beto, which was blocked by rival goalkeeper, Abranches, who was inside the goal neatly headed into the net to make it 2-0.

Inspired by the two goals lead, Dempo continued attacking in the second half too and further increased their lead in the 64 minute through Roberto Mendis Silva whose header found the net to make it 3-0. In the 69th minute Beto after collecting a pass from Renty Martin unleashed a powerpacked shot, which hit the goal post and rebounded into play.

In the 70th minute, Dempo's Renty scored his second goal to give his side a four goals lead and sealed the fate of Chirag United.

It was a good pass from Roberto Mendis Silva (Beto), who was later adjudged the man of the match for his fine performance.
