Ludhiana, Nov 16: High humidity and low temperature combination is favourable for the development of the late blight disease, according to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) experts.
Giving details Dr H S Rewal, Head, Department of Plant Pathology said that with the night temperature falling down with dew formation, there are chances of appearance of late blight during this month.
According to Dr Rewal late blight of potato generally starts appearing in November in Punjab when weather conditions become favourable for the disease.
He advised the potato growers to give sprays of Indofil M-45 or Antracol or Kavach to prevent the attack of the disease. It has been seen that most of the farmers do not use sufficient quantity of spray solution which is must for adequate coverage of the foliage for better disease management, he added while advising that the sprays could be repeated after 7 to 10 days interval.
