Uphill task for Chirag United against Dempo in I League

By Staff

Margao, Nov 15 (UNI) Chirag United will have a tough task, when they take on defending champions Dempo Sports Club in the ONGC I league match to be played here at Nehru stadium, Fatorda, tomorrow.

Both the teams have been inconsistent in their performance in the league so far, but the holders will be going all out for victory to improve their position in home matches.

Both the teams are also tied with eight points from seven outings with two wins, two draws and three defeats each.

Dempo coach Arman Colaco's main concern was that though team plays, it is able to convert the chances into goals. He said forward player Joaquim Abranches will be included in the team tomorrow. ''Our main aim is to gain full points to stay in the contention. Hope the boys put up a good show tomorrow and emerge as winners.'' The coach said, ''Chirag is a good team, which beat strong teams like Mahindra United and also drew goalless against Churchill Brothers and JCT, but we will perform well.'' Dempo, who have still not lived up to their awesome reputation in the championship would have to go all out for a win to avoid slipping further than the precarious 9th position they occupy right now.

Dempo will be depending heavily on their Nigerian Forward Renty Martin and Mboyo Iyomi in the front, who have also earlier scored the most goals for their side. Mahesh Gawali and Valerian Rebello would be in the defence. Helping the Nigerian in the forward line will be Brazilian Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto), Nascimento Silviera and Clifford Miranda. Thus the striking power of the holders looks formidable on paper. However, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to translate these advantages into the goals. The midfielder will also have to pull up their socks and strikers will have to strike bang on the target.

Meanwhile Chirag United, placed 10th, would be relying on their forwards, particularly Gauranga Datta, Sankar Oraon, Muritala and Hardeep Singh Saini to deliver the goods.
