Treta defeats Prerana Appineni

Kolkata, Nov 15 (UNI) Local girl Treta Bhattacharyya, fresh from her National Doubles conquering in Delhi, kept city flag flying high, defeating wild card Prerana-Mythri Appineni of Hyderabad as the Gujarat NRE Coke 50,000 dollar ITF Women's Challenger began here today.

She beat her rival 5-7,6-1,7-6(7-3) in 135 minutes. Treta came back from a set down to win the thriller as first round qualifying matches completing.

The first set went Prerana's way with 7-5. Prerana broke Treta in the sixth, eighth and twelfth games. She got broken in the first and seventh games.

Thereafter, Treta upped her game a few notches and broke Prerana in all the games while failing to keep her serve in the second.

Treta took the second set at 6-1. In the final set Prerana was down 0-3, from there she went up 5-3.

Treta let Prerana commit the mistakes rather than sticking her neck out. From a deficit of 3-5 she took the set to tie break.

Prerana lost her serves in the second, tenth and twelfth games.

Treta could not keep her serves in the fifth and seventh. Treta took the tie breaker at 7-3.

The longest match of the day was between Korean Hae-Sung Kim and Russian Inna Kuzmenko. The match lasted 175 minutes with Kim prevailing 5-7,6-3,7-6(7-5).
