Ranchi, Nov 15: Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren has said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will probe the incident at Bero school where students died after consuming contaminated milk two days ago.
Official sources today said a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) level officer would lead the investigation and if required the matter could be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Meanwhile, three people, including the milk supplier, had been detained by the police and a case against the school principal, hostel superintendent, cook and two others lodged.
While ten among the sick students were shifted to a hospital last evening, the condition of three was stated to be critical.
''The ailing students could also be sent to AIIMS in the national capital if their condition remained critical,'' sources informed.
Altogether five children of Bero Awasiya Adivasi school died and over 40 were admitted to Rajendra Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences when they complained of nausea after consuming milk and banana on November 13.
The state government had announced to provide Rs one lakh as compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
