Chennai, Nov 15 (UNI) National SIP Prodigy 2008, organised by SIP Academy at the Chennai Trade Centre here today received overwhelming response with 4,000 children from across the country participating in this mega event.
The contest, which tested the skills of children between seven to 12 years, was won by 14 champions from 14 different categories, an academy release here said.
Former City Police Commissioner R Sekar inaugurated the event.
The children were from 448 SIP Learning Centres across 160 cities in 18 states. The children exhibited their prowess in numerical abilities using their skills learnt through the SIP Abacus and Brain Gym programme.
The competition, Level one to the Grandmaster Level (11 levels within 14 categories) tested the concentration, confidence, intelligence, speed and accuracy of the participants.
The objective of the competition was to develop a competitive spirit amongst these children and motivate them to excel in the programme, the release said.
On the occasion, Chennai-based NGO Tulir, along with SIP Academy, organised a special talk on 'Sexual abuse of Children' with the aim to sensitise parents and society about the malaise and effective ways to prevent it.
It was also a treat to watch children take the Green Pledge to save the environment during the event. The objective behind the exercise was to inculcate the habit of saving energy and caring for Mother Earth right from childhood.
