Major tragedy averted in north Kashmir, IED defused
Srinagar, Nov 15 (UNI) Security forces today averted a major tragedy in north Kashmir when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants to target security forces and politicians.
Official sources said a joint team of 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), state police and 53 batallion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) detected an abandoned tin on the roadside at Delina in Baramulla district.
The area was immediately cordoned off and those present taken to safer places.
Later, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the 4 kg IED in a tin, planted to target security forces and politicians as the electioneering in the district, going to polls in the fourth phase on December 7, has already started.
Had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused major damage to life and property, sources added.
