Mah CID files chargesheet against former API, suspended constables
Mumbai, Nov 15 (UNI) The Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today filed a more than 1,000-page chargesheet here against former assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Vaze and three other suspended police constables, for their alleged involvement in custodial death of December two Ghatkopar blast accused Khwaja Yunus (26) on January seven, 2003.
Advocate R B Mokashi, representing the state CID, said, ''We have filed a more than 1,000-page chargesheet in the Vikroli Metropolitan Magistrate court against Vaze and three other suspended police constables, who had allegedly taken Yunus to Aurangabad on January seven, 2003 for investigation in the blast case.
Mr Mokashi said during CID investigation it was revealed that Yunus was never taken to Lonawala police lock-up, where he was claimed to be taken on the way to Aurangabad, and thereafter nobody has seen him (Yunus).
The Metropolitan Court has issued notice to Vaze and the other accused to remain in the court on December eight, to collect copy of the chargesheet.
They have been booked under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), he added.
Vaze has resigned from the service and entered into politics, while the others were suspended.
Assistant inspector Sachin Vaze and three constables had allegedly taken Yusuf to Aurangabad for investigation from the police lock-up in Powai and on their way the vehicle had met with an accident near Parner in Ahmednagar district, when Yunus allegedly escaped from their custody on January seven, 2003. However, state CID now debunks this story and claims that Yunus died in custody, while being interrogated by Vaze.
