Vijayawada, Nov 15 (UNI) With the cyclonic storm 'Khai Mukh' laying centered about 270 km south-east of Machilipatnam in Krishna district, District Collector N Sridhar today directed Revenue and panchayat raj officials to take effective steps to shift people residing in low-lying areas in three mandals of the district.
Official sources told UNI that the collector had asked them to immediately shift people residing in Koduru, Kalidindi and Nagayalanka in view of the impending cyclonic storm.
Control rooms were being set up in the district to monitor the storm, likely to cross between Bapatle and Kaninada tonight, sources said.
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (Krishna region) has made arrangements by stationing buses at Gudivada, Gandar, Ayanigadda bus depots to quickly move people to relief camps.
Local Meteorological department sources said under the impact of the cyclonic storm, heavy to heavy rainfall was likely at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 36 hours.
Wind speed reaching 75 to 95 kmph along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely during the next 24 hours. The sea would be rough to very rough off the coast of Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea,'' they said.
Cautionary danger signals were hoisted at all major ports in the coastal districts, the sources added.
