Kerala continue to dominate, Parminder fells national record

Mysore, Nov 15 (UNI) Parminder Kumar of Uttar Pradesh set a new national record in Boys-18 pole vault, even as Kerala athletes continued to hold sway on the penultimate day in the 24th National Junior Athletic Championship here today.

The well built UP lad cleared the bar at 4.30 M to eclipse the old record in the name of Virender Singh of Gujarat, who had achieved 4.2 M.

J Preeth of Tamil Nadu who finished second also bettered the national mark at 4.25 M, Umesh Kumar Yadav of UP took the bronze.

In the Boys-20 shot put, Gurdit Singh of Punjab hurled the shotput ball to a distance of 17.76 M to etch a new meet record. The old record was with Keldeep Mann of Delhi who had achieved a distance of 17.40 m in 2000. Ajya Pal Singh of Delhi and M Ganesh Babu of Andhra Pradesh took the silver and bronze medals.

Kerala Boys and girls continued their supremacy in the meet bagging six more golds, while UP and Harayna secured four golds each. Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Karnataka secured two golds each.
