Jewellery shop dacoity solved in UP

Lucknow, Nov 15: Police today arrested four people in connection with a dacoity, on November 4, in the house of Khunkhunji Jewellers, in Thakurganj district here and recovered jewellery and cash worth about Rs one crore.

Police sources said they arrested Ramnath, Baalendra Pratap Singh, Vikas Yadav and Raju Yadav when they were dividing the loot among themselves and recovered jewellery, gold, diamonds and cash worth Rs 90 lakh. There were five dacoits but one was shot down in an encounter, they added.

They said Vikas Yadav was a student of the Lucknow Christian College and taught English in a school, while Raju Yadav worked as a security guard and a rickshaw puller in Gomtinagar.

Baalendra's brother worked as a security guard at the Aminabad shop of Khunkhunji Jewellers. Ramnath also worked as a security guard but was dismissed from his job and was working as a partime property dealer.

The police team, which solved the case, would be rewarded by senior officials of the police.

The criminals robbed Khunkhunji Jewellers's residence on November 4 at around 0300 hrs and killed a woman. While escaping, one Bablu got injured, as the balcony collapsed, and was later killed in encounter. Half kg gold dust and Rs 31,000 were recovered from his possession, while the others managed to run away with the rest of the loot.
