Kolkata, Nov 15 (UNI) Undefeated in last five games, resurgent Mohun Bagan start favourites as they take on unpredictable JCT in the 8th round of the Indian League at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here tomorrow.
Though the Ludhiana side and MB have a same number of points in the twelve team competition, goal difference made has placed the visitors a berth above their rivals.
JCT's campaign has been ups and down till now and hence unpredictable. Their opening was terrific with a 2-1 win at reigning champions Dempo and then were held 1-1 with debutant and bottom ranked Vasco. Their next victim was Mohammedan Sporting 2-0 and that was their last win in last seven games with three drawn games including that of United SC and Churchill Brothers and lost to Mahindra United and Air India which proved their unpredictability.
Former India coach Sukwinder Singh was noncommital about the outcome saying Mohun Bagan are a tremendous side with the return of Jose Barreto. Barreto did not play in the 1-0 win over Churchill Brothers in last home match due to automatic suspension.
Singh said his boys have been preparing for big games and whoever scores first and maxmium will emerge winner. Eduardo Escobar was his main trump card as the foreigner has scored two goals including one against Dempo.
The Bagan camp is jubilant after two consecutive wins over Goan outfits - 1-0 over Dempo and with identical margin against Churchill Brothers. Their previous three games were all about sharing points with the rivals.
Mohun Bagan are expected to retain the same side they fielded against Churchill Brothers. Only P C Lalwmpuiya may be rested or could be substituted mid-way.
Coach Karim Bencherifia said he was confident of a positive result. He said now all matches are very crucial whether they are held at home or away because only four games are left to complete the first leg.
