Dresden (Germany), Nov 15 (UNI) India had a good day as its men and women teams chalked out their second successive victories defeating their rivals by identical 3-1 margins in the second round of the 38th Chess Olympiad here.
Spearheaded by Grandmasters Krishnan Sasikiran and G N Gopal, India overwhelmed Sweden 3-1 in the men's section while the women accounted for Lativia by an identical margin.
The Indian men and women teams both have four points each to their credit.
The Men's team is in the joint lead along with 19 other teams.
Though there were no upsets, top seed Russia, had to once again work hard to beat Poland 2.5-1.5 The women's team owes its win to fine performances on the second and fourth board by Asian champion Tania Sachdev and Asian junior champion Mary Ann Gomes.
Fourteen teams share the lead with a perfect score and the Indian women will now take on top seed Russia.
