Delhi polls: Police keeping close watch on border areas
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) In the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly elections, which are slated to take place on November 29, the Delhi Police are keeping a close vigil on the the national capital areas bordering Haryana and Uttar Pradesh from where a large number of wrestlers and bouncers are ''imported'' by leaders contesting the polls.
According to Delhi Police Headquarters sources, a huge number of grapplers and bouncers always enter the capital from neighbouring states --Haryana and Uttar Pradesh -- in the run-up to elections in the capital, whether they be elections to civic bodies, aseembly or the Lok Sabha.
''These wrestlers and bouncers become part of leaders' security detail ahead of elections as they go canvassing from area to area.
There are instances when these leaders come face to face with the leaders of opposition parties, a situation which sometimes lead to clashes between them. So to provide extra touches to their security appartus, leaders add muscle of grapplers to their electioneering team,'' they added.
''Some notorious grapplers, who have had a dubious past, are taken into preventive custody so that any kind of potential trouble is averted. An eye is also being kept on the border areas so that no unlicensed arms or ammunition find entry into the national capital,'' they informed.
