Cong MP alleges corruption in Indiramma, demands probe
Kakinada, Nov 15 (UNI) Alleging irregularities and corruption in the second phase of ''Indiramma'' programme, Amalapuram, MP, G Harshakumar, today urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to send a special investigating team to conduct a detailed probe into the matter.
Addressing a press conference here, he alleged that out of 1,700 houses constructed in ten villages of Kothapet mandal under the programme, around 229 houses in Kothapet village were not constructed at all, but were shown on paper as completed.
He said this was revealed by the enquiry committee, headed by an officer of Superintending Engineer rank, who had recently conducted an inquiry concerning 800 houses.
He said ''if 229 houses were shown only on paper in a single mandal, one can imagine how many more would be found if entire district was thoroughly screened.'' Since a major chunk of funds for the Indirama housing programme was from the Centre, he would write to the Chief Minister, requesting him to conduct a detailed probe into the irregularities in the housing programme, he added.
