BJP lauds ISRO for Moon success
Bhopal, Nov 15 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today congratulated Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair and his team in the wake of ISRO's unmanned moon voyager Chandrayaan-1 placing the Moon Impact Probe, bearing the Indian Tricolour, on the lunar surface.
With this success, India joined an elite group of four nations that have touched the Moon with their technology.
''Chandrayaan's success has fulfilled the dream of former premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who announced the project in his Independence Day address in 2003,'' BJP General Secretary Ananth Kumar said today.
He, however, alleged that the Congress was attempting to take credit and derive political mileage from the space programme by placing advertisements in newspapers. The issue was already before the Election Commission and a reminder would be sent soon, he told reporters here, adding that the Congress was misleading people.
When it was pointed out that BJP also took credit for Pokhran II, Mr Kumar evaded a direct reply by saying that the BJP had not inserted ads as it gave full credit to the scientists for their success.
