Army Adventure Cup 2008 begins in Sikkim

Gangtok, Nov 15 (UNI) The Army Adventure Cup 2008 began here today with twelve teams from six command centres are vying for the top honours in triathlon meet.

The 17th Mountain Division is conducting the event, at Majitar, East Sikkim, which consists of 11 kms of mountain cycling, 11 kms of hill running and 16 kms of rafting along the rapids of Teesta without a breather.

There are six participants in each team led by an officer.

Major General Sanjiv Chachra, GOC of the 17th Mountain Division flagged off the first team of Eastern Command this morning at Majitar bridge. The meet will continue upto November 22 where the winners will be announced.

The championship is a landmark event for the 17th Mountain Division as it is being conducted in Sikkim for the first time.

It also marks the growing acceptance of Sikkim being an ideal spot for adventure tourism.
