Hyderabad, Nov 15 (UNI) The Lok Satta party today demanded that the Andhar Pradesh Government immediately appoint a chairperson to the State Women's Commission and help curb atrocities against women.
Addressing mediapersons here, party spokesperson S Manorama and Mahila Satta State Coordinator N Saroja Devi said about 13,000 cases of atrocities against women were pending with the commission.
The Government's complacency in the appointment of a chairperson ran counter to its claim of empowering women, they claimed.
Demanding closure of belt shops, the Lok Satta leaders said mere extension of loans at three per cent interest would not make poor women self-reliant as they were the prime victims of liquor menace.
