Rajkot, Nov 14 (UNI) The good start provided by openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag helped India to amass massive 387 runs against England, believes Yuvraj Singh who struck a scintilating century to guide the home team to a 158-run win over visitors here today.
''Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag gave us a good start by putting on 127 for the first wicket. We had to capitalise on that and I am happy that I played brilliantly from there on,'' Yuvraj, who scored an unbeaten 138 runs off just 78 balls, said after the match.
Yuvraj, who was declared man-of-the-match for his brilliant innings, said it was a team effort that led India to go one-up in the seven-match ODI series.
''We batted well and bowled well. We played as a unit and I believe that it reflected in our perfromance and I am happy with my personal contribution as well.
''It was important for India to have good start and we got off good start and we made good total,'' he added.
The left-hander looked in complete discomfort beacuse of the pain in his back and had Gambhir running for him since the time he was batting on 37.
''Intially, I felt discomfort, but later on settled and played my strokes and hit the century. I am fully fit,'' he said and added, ''I will continue to produce the goods in the next game too.'' Yuvraj also assured that India will go on in the same fashion and look to increase the lead in the remaining matches.
''We have got a good start and we will continue to do so in the next matches too. I can do my best to play well to the my potential,'' he said.
He also had words of praise for Zaheer Khan who almost forced England to bow out of the match very early in their innings picking up three wickets.
''Zaheer bowled very well to take three important wickets.
He bowled in correct line and length,'' Yuvraj said.
