Three labourers die as huge stone caves in
Bhubaneswar, Nov 14 (UNI) At least three labourers were killed and several others were still trapped inside the debris as a huge stone mass caved in near a small hillock at Patharbandi, about 150 km from here today.
Jajpur police said the labourers were engaged by a local contractor to collect black metal used in road construction work when the accident took place.
Police apprehended that the toll might rise as about 15 to 20 labourers are still buried in the mound.
Usually the contractors use dynamite to blast the rock and collect the black metal.
Local police said so far three bodies had been recovered from the accident site.
Senior police officials and fire brigade personnel have rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation. Details are awaited.
