Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 13: Kerala Education Minister M A Baby on Friday, Nov 14 said that the state government would constitute a committee to protest and take further steps against the neglect of Malayalam language.

Receiving a report regarding suggestions and recommendation to recognise Malayalam as a classical language, he said Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan would be the chairman of the committee, while Education and Cultural Minister would be its convenor. The other members in the committee would be prominent persons from the socio-cultural-literary fields.

Pointing out that the Centre should take necessary steps for the development of all languages, he said the Bengali language, which had brought Nobel Prize to the country, was not given the classical status.

Mr Baby warned that the attitude of considering certain languages was prominent and would invite a threat to the unity of the country.
