HSL launches new ship in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Nov 14: The Hindustan Shipyard Limited(HSL) Chairman and Managing Director Ajit Tiwari's wife Juliet Tiwari flagged off the 30,000 DWT bulk carrier ship 'M V Good Pilgrims' for the Good Earth Maritime Limited(GEML), Chennai here on Friday, Nov 14.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Tiwari said this is the second had launch of the largest vessel in the country. The ship would be delivered in March next year.

The MD said India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru launched the first ship built by 'HSL Jal Usha' on this day in March 1948. ''Today we are launching 'Good Pilgrims' 60 years after Nehru's birthday to pay tribute to the great son of India,'', he added.

He said the Yard had registered 100 per cent capacity utilisation last year and its turnover would be increased to about Rs 100 crore this year. In the last five years, HSL has earned a gross profit of Rs 430 crore, which exceeds the profit earned in the previous six decades, he added.

He said capacity utilisation and productivity of the shipyard has increased in the last four years and it has upgraded its facilities.

The Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral Nirmal Varma and Senior General Manager of HSL R B Rao, were among others, who participated in the function.
