Heavy snowfall hits media in Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 14 (UNI) Heavy snowfall coupled with disruption of power and road communication in the Kashmir valley today affected the distribution of daily newspapers and transmission of electronic media.
According to reports, distribution of more than 40 English and Urdu newpapers were hit. ''We have been able to distribute newspapers in the city and some areas in the outskirts only,'' a newspaper editor said.
He said distribution of newspapers to different districts was affected due to non-availability of transport.
Majority of the newspapers could not reach the districts and tehsil headquarters, affecting the distribution.
Meanwhile, the functioning of the media offices, including the foreign, national and local news agencies was also affected owing to total power failure since early this morning.
Media organisations besides the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and other essential services remained affected, forcing them to switch on the power generators.
The Vsat service also remained affected due to continuous snowfall.
