New Delhi, Nov 14 : India erupted into celebrations as Yuvraj Singh struck the second fastest one-day century by an Indian to set up the team's thumping 158-run victory over England in the first one-day international on Friday.
The 26-year-old left-hander smashed 138 not out in just 78 balls to help India post an imposing 387 for five for their best one-day total against a test-playing nation.
It was the highest total England has ever conceded and end in one of their heaviest defeats after being bowled out for 229 despite fifties by skipper Kevin Pietersen (63) and Ravi Bopara (54).
Locals in New Delhi enjoyed Yuvraj's superb knock.
"I am really happy and enjoyed seeing the match. Everyone should feel happy to see Yuvraj bat. We defeated England with a huge margin. Sehwag and Gambhir a solid start," said a fan Ved Pal.
Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan took three quick wickets in an electrifying seven-over opening spell to trigger a top-order collapse from England.
Others liked Zaheer's bowling and want India to beat England as it defeated Kangaroos in the recently concluded test series.
"India really played nicely, particularly Zaheer bowled well and Yuvraj's batting was spectacular. We defeated England with the a huge margin on our home ground and we want that India should win the series in the same way as we defeated Australia," Bhawna, another resident, said.
A young fan, who was full of praise for the team, appreciated India's opening stand.
"Opening for India was good and I want that India should beat England and all other teams the same way it has defeated Australia," said Abeer, a young fan.
The second match in the seven-match series will be played in Indore on Monday.
