New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) The Election Commission has appointed nine observers for the November 29 Assembly elections in Delhi to oversee the management of postal ballot and preparation and distribution of EPIC in Assembly constituencies falling in respective districts.
These observers have been appointed ''in exercise of the powers conferred on the Election Commission of India under article 324 of the Constitution and Section 20(B) of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951,'' a release by the Delhi electoral office said today.
While Mr X K Mahto (IAS), the Member Admin at the Delhi Jal Board has been appointed observer for Northwest district, Mr Manoj Parida (IAS), the MD DSIIDC is the observer for South district, Ms Debashree Mukherjee (IAS), the Secy Social Welfare and Women and Child Development for North and Ms Archana Arora (IAS), Commissioner Trade and Tax the observer for West district.
Mr Ramesh Negi (IAS), Chief Executive Officer of the Delhi Jal Board, is the observer for the Northeast while Mr D M Spolia (IAS), Secretary Urban Development, is the observer for Central district, Mr Naresh Kumar (IAS), Additional Commissioner Engg MCD, the observer for East district, Mr R K Verma (IAS), Secretary and Commissioner Transport Development for New Delhi district and Mr Rakesh Mohan (IAS), Secretary GAD, is the observer for Southwest district.
During the election period, these officers would work subject to the control, superintendence and discipline of the Election Commission and would send their report directly to it. These appointments are in addition to the observers appointed by the Commission in all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi.
