Imphal, Nov 14 (UNI) The Assam Rifles organised an educational tour for children of Samtal Salient, Chandel district as part of the Children's Day observation.
The Samtal Salient in the Manipur-Myanmar border area was under control of militants and was recently sanitized by the troops.
The 44 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector AR will enabled 20 children from the area to see for the first time Imphal, Dimapur, Agra and Delhi.
The team left Chandel district yesterday and will leave Imphal today for onward journey.
The aim of this tour is to acquaint them with the culture of other states as also with the lifestyles in developed cities and imbibe in them a sense of belonging for their country.
A group of 20 school children--five girls and 15 boys--are being accompanied by three teachers.
Maj Gen AK Choudhary, SM, VSM, IGAR (S) said the programme marked the efforts by Assam Rifles towards promoting national integrity and patriotism amongst the local population.
