AP CM launches drinking water supply
Hyderabad, Nov 14 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today launched daily drinking water supply to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)area after more than a decade.
Speaker after the inauguration, he said the state government was committed to solve the drinking water problem in the city which has a population of 75 lakh.
He said urbanisation was a worldwide phenomena as the people were migrating to cities and towns from villages.
Keeping in mind the growing urban population, it was the responsibility of his government to provide basic amenities like drinking water to the people, he said.
He said to mitigate the drinking water problem, the state government had taken initiative to divert drinking water from the Krishna river under two phases with 90 MGD each with a cost of Rs 2100 crore. But still a lot has to be done for providing drinking water, he added.
