TN Govt to introduce energy conservation measures
Chennai, Nov 13 (UNI) Facing serere power crisis, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to introduce energy conservation measures so as to bring about reduction in power consumption in all government offices, educational institutions and industries.
Government offices, including local bodies and public sector undertakings, have been directed to reduce their overall power consumption by 10 per cent by the end of current billing cycle or one month, whichever was earlier and by 20 per cent within six months, an official release here said.
The restriction would not apply to power consumption for the purpose of street lighting and water supply and sewage schemes in local bodies, it said.
All government institutions, like hospitals, hostels, hotels, guest houses should install Solar water heating systems within one year.
All new buildings to be constructed by the government, local bodies and government undertakings should incorporate energy efficiency measures, it said.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board would monitor the power consumption in all government buildings in the state, the release added.
