Saurashtra thrash Orissa by innings and 84 runs, garner six points

Rajkot, Nov 13 (UNI) Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets for 44 and helped Saurashtra to an innings and 84 run triumph over Orissa on the last day of the super league Ranji trophy here today.

Saurashtra, who lost their opening match against Gujarat few days ago here, showed their maturity in the second encounter against Orissa and slammed 620 for four in their first innings in which Cheteshar Pujara hit tripple century (302 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (232 not out) and bowled out visitors twice and won the match comfortably by an innings and 84 runs.

Saurashtra garnered six points from this match for their outright victory. In the first match, hosts were pointless.

Orissa batsmen today displayed poor batsmanship after they started their second innings at overnight score of four for no loss and caved in for 234 runs in second essay against the spin bowlings of Kamlesh Makwana, Rakesh Dhruve and Ravindra Jadeja. Off spinners Kamlesh Makwana and Rakesh Dhruve shared two wickets each by giving away 92 and 18 runs. Main chief-wrecker was left arm spinner and under-19 world cup hero Ravindra Jadeja who spun well and accounted for five wickets by giving away 44 runs. His bowling figure read as 28.1-14-44-5. Orissa's wicket fell at regular intervals after good start by the opening pair of Bikas Pati and S S Das who put on 67 runs for the first wicket.

For Orissa, notable contributions from B Pati (44), N Behra (42) and Haldhar Das (41). No other Orissa batsmen applied themselves and crumbled against the spin attack.

BRIEF SCORE: Saurashtra Ist Innings 620 for four declared Orissa Ist Innings 302 all out Orissa 2nd Innings 234 all out in 85.1 overs ( B Pati 44, S S Das 22, N Behra 42, H Das 41 K Makwana two for 92, Ravindra Jadeja five for 44 and R Dhruve two for 18.
